Possible the rarest bird ever found on our property here on Lake Dardanelle. It was feeding in the backyard with "normal" White-throats and Juncos. Fortunately, LaDonna was able to take several photos through a window to document the sighting. I will post them shortly. Ken

Here is another. I like this one best. You can really see the dark hood coming through and the dark tail.

Are you sure it is not a melanistic White-throated Sparrow?

Looks like that bird's DNA was run through a blender before it hatched.

Are you sure it is not a melanistic White-throated Sparrow? Yes. Take a look at the hood, the pink bill, the lack of pattern on the head and the black tail. Although you can't see it in the photos, it also had white outer tail feathers like a junco. Google White-throated Sparrow x Dark-eyed Junco images and you'll see similar photos.

Just read my PABIRDS list from yesterday. Another white-throated sparrow/dark eyed junco cross was photographed in Bucks County. Photos here: www.flickr.com/photos/chrysoptera/The plumage of the bird in the PA photos is more distinct than the one above.
