Lake Dardanelle is one of the premier winter birding locations in the entire state. The list of rarities found here is extensive and growing. These rarities include: Tufted Duck, Barrow's Goldeneye, Thayer's Gull, California Gull, Little Gull, Sabine's Gull, Sooty Tern, all 3 scoters, Long-tailed Duck, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Laughing Gull, Glaucous Gull, Red-throated Loon, Pacific Loon, Red-necked Grebe, Western Grebe, Brown Pelican, Red-necked Phalarope and more.
The best location to bird Lake Dardanelle is from Delaware Rec Area. To reach this area take HWY 22 west from Dardanelle approximately 10 miles to the "town" of Delaware. Here you need to turn right (north) onto HWY 393. Take this to the very end. Best birding is done from the point and the boat launch area.
