While en route to another site to photograph wildflowers and dragonflies with David Oakley, I made a quick stop at River Run West at Millwood Lake. Yesterday, there were several hundred swallows gathered on the telephone lines leading to spillway but 99% were Northern Rough-winged with a few Tree and a single Bank Swallow mixed in. Today, a similar number of birds were present in about the same proportions except that, in lieu of a single Bank Swallow, there was a lone juvie Cave Swallow in the last group of birds that I checked. David was pleased to get this unexpected new state bird as a bonus.
It won't be long before mentioning this species will have to be done somewhere other than the Rare Birds forum.
