LaDonna and I had another great day birding Chicot County, yesterday. We mainly birded three particular areas -two private fish farms and the area around Grand Lake. Below is a list of some of the highlight birds we had on the day inlcuding 18 species of shorebird and 14 species of wading birds. The Swallow-tailed Kite was year bird #316.
Black-bellied Whistling-Duck -32 Fulvous Whistling-Duck -4 Piping Plover -1 Black-necked Stilt -1000 American Avocet -7 Willet -2 Least Sandpiper -1000's Pectoral Sandpiper -1000's Least Tern -700 Swallow-tailed Kite -1 Peregrine Falcon -1 (juvenile anatum ssp. chasing shorebirds) Great Egret -1000+ Snowy Egret -1000+ Tricolored Heron -1 Black-crowned Night-Heron -8 Yellow-crowned Night-Heron -1 White Ibis -30 Glossy Ibis -1 White-faced Ibis-15 Plegadis Ibis that were most likely White-faced Ibis -68 Roseate Spoonbill -19 Wood Stork -43 Anhinga -30

LaDonna and I birded some of these same areas yesterday plus another location south of Wilmot. The only really new bird was a Red-necked Phalarope. Not a new year bird for me but it was for LaDonna.

My son and I birded the Mississippi River levee from the north end of Grand Lake to the Louisiana border. Our highlights were 20 White Ibis and 2 Glossy Ibis.
Additionally, we saw many egrets, herons, cormorants and smaller sandpiper-like birds we could not identify at a distance. Especially beautiful were the hundreds blue winged teal present. It was a marvelous day to be out.
