LaDonna and I traveled the most of the AR/MS River Levee yesterday with Terry Butler and David Finch. We started north of Arkansas City and ended at Grand Lake, skipping the levee between Lake Chicot SP and Eudora. After leaving Grand Lake, Terry and David headed back home. Our bird list at this point included birds such as: Roseate Spoonbill (8), Wood Stork (150), White Ibis (100), Glossy Ibis (2), White-faced Ibis (38), Mottled Duck (1), and Black-bellied Whistling Duck (12). From Eudora, LaDonna and I headed west and birded the fish ponds of western Chicot County. Believe it or don't but it actually got better. Besides the thousands and thousands of common shorebirds such as Pectoral, Least and Semipalmated Sandpiper, we had: Black-necked Stilt (300), Least Tern (125), Roseate Spoonbill (65), Wood Stork (150), White Ibis (200), Cave Swallow (1), Piping Plover (3), American Avocet (20), Ruddy Turnstone (2), and Willet (4).

Did you add any birds to your big year list?

I did, actually. We took photos of a Swallow-tailed Kite which flew over us 6 miles north of Eudora. This made year bird #316.
