This weekend, I have been at Lake Norfork in Baxter County; boating, tubing, enjoying the mild weather, etcetera. While tubing yesterday and being thrown back, forth and off into the water, I managed to see probably 40 or more Black Terns cruising over a couple different bays. Diving and flying all around, seemingly ignorant to the bruising going on just below.
It makes me wonder just what birds might "get away", in Baxter County, from us scrutinizing birders who seem to miss this potential gem of grand, open bays and secluded coves.
Headed back home to extra strength Tylenol, my mind is moving on. Thinking of that Ruddy Turnstone I need for my state list and wondering if there will be one hanging around in White County this week. Maybe I'll find that same flock of terns that laughed with me as I skidded across the water!
