At Cooks Landing this afternoon, I spied a Merganser type duck on the backwater. It dove once as it swam swiftly out and around the bend. The sun was in my eyes, so I never got a good look through the binoculars, so I snapped off a few photos. My best guess is Hooded Merganser. The photos indicate a light colored bill, I thought I spied a yellow tint. In the photos you can see a little wispy feathering behind the head.
